Dear Colleagues,
Let us invite you to participate in the International Scientific Conference that takes place from October 13 to October 14, 2023, at the grounds of the Faculty of Education, University of Ostrava. All academics, scientists, professionals in the field, teachers, artists, PhD and other students from local and foreign workplaces, whose professional focus stems from the area of art pedagogy, art education, and other social sciences and humanities. All interdisciplinary contributions of related scientific and artistic fields are also welcome.

The main aim of this conference is professional, didactic, and social reflection on art education in the context of education system, as well as in the socio-cultural and artistic contexts. A new concept of the art and culture education area, in the framework of elementary education is confronting us not only with the real state of the art education field, but also with its reflection in the public opinion sphere. Thus, it is not only important to address the relationship of art education to other education fields and search for the place of art education in contemporary world, but also critically evaluate our ability to present and improve this field in a daily life. We look with worries into the future, and so it seems to us necessary to act with such intentions that are socially relevant and comprehensible enough to become a generally shared opinion platform for professional public, and its shared awareness about the field as a key tool of post-industrial transformation of society, whose extension will undoubtedly be a whole new array of materialized socio-economic, cultural, and other opportunities. An important part of this reflection is the new evaluation of the legacy of art education, not only in historical framework, but mainly in the context of the present global problems. Only this kind of broad insight is a prerequisite of our ability to defend the state of the field in contemporary global society, respectively, to present it as an authentic tool of effective comparison of different contexts, not only in the area of art but also to be able to offer it as eventually full-fledged ecosystem of organisms with developed visual competencies, people co-existing empathetically with their animate and inanimate surroundings.

The present day, of which imperatives are the not too long ago faded away pandemic and the ongoing terrifying conflict in the Ukraine shows us that it is necessary not to think only about one’s own role in the societal context but it is also necessary to act – to the extent and competencies possible – in such a way, so that the experienced reality finds its own peculiar picture in the materialization of specific changes, leading to the creation of field conditions for smart and empathetic people, for smart and empathetic world.
