Annotation:

Contact among cultures has always been a part of each culture's existence and has always belonged to the reality of people's everyday lives. Multiculturalism as a political concept has also brought consequences to the field of education. The area of multicultural education has been transformed into intercultural and transcultural education; it appears in various activities performed during teaching. In this course, students will understand terminology related to multicultural education; they will reflect their own experience of the activities in which they participate; and thus they will build up their transcultural consciousness and become more interculturally literate.

Requirements:

80% attendance in the course is required. Students prepare their own short activities (max. 10 minutes) that they find supportive for the development of intercultural literacy – they have to define the objectives of the activity in cognitive, affective and psychomotoric terms and to implement the activity with a group of their co-students. Also they write a description of how multicultural education is provided in their home countries (3-5 pages).

Aims and objectives:

Students gain:

  • Knowledge of basic terms related to the topic.
  • Knowledge of relations between cultures.
  • The ability to create and effectively organize activities focused on intercultural literacy.
  • The ability to act properly in direct contact with people from abroad.
