Synopsis/description/annotation:

The aim of the subject is to acquaint students with basic of down hill skiing and cross country skiing skills and teoretic knowledge.

Requirement to student:

The overall assessment is based on the study and examination rules of the University of Ostrava and consists of the sum of points obtained during the semester from two continuous tests (100-51 points (E) "passed", 50-0 points (F) "failed").

Assessment during the Semester Seminars:

  1. Active participation in all course lessons
  2. Successful completion of the knowledge requirements (test) = 10 points
  3. Practical skill requirements = 90 points
    (Down hill skiing = 45; Cross country skiing)

Content

The theoretical part:

  • Principles of safety during skiing.
  • Ski equipment.
  • Technique and methodology of downhill skiing.
  • Technique and methodology of cross-country skiing.
  • Ski preparation and maintenance. Ski equipment.
  • Rules of ski competitions and ski disciplines, regenerative exercises, basics of nutrition.

Practical part:

  • General and specialized ski training.
  • Practice of snow plow turn, stem christie.
  • Practice of parallel turn (christie).
  • Practice of carved turn (carving).
  • Training of classic technique of cross-country skiing.
  • Training of skating in cross-country skiing.
  • Cross-country skiing training.

Teaching methods:

Teoretic knowleadge (lecture, briefing)

Practical skill (explanation, demonstration, feedback, correction, video analysis)

  • C1 - Observation of objects / phenomena / processes
  • C2 - Demonstration of objects / phenomena / processes
  • C4 - Briefing
  • D2 - Training and creating motoric / sports skills

Evaluation methods:

  • IC8 - Didactic test (teoretical knowledge)
  • IB4 – Motor skill test (examination of practical skills)

Language requirements:

  • English A2
  • Spanish A2

Skilled requirements:

For successful completion of the course it is assumed that the student is capable of motor learning.

Possibility of rental (Ski equipment), Price of Ski course around 8.000,- CZK (accomodation, travel expences, teaching aids)

Ski course takes places in Austria (Alps).
