Aims and objectives:

The course focuses on expanding students' knowledge and imparting skills from the decathlon (men) and the heptathlon (women). Theoretical knowledge is complemented by an understanding of sports training for children and young people in the context of schools specializing in sports.

Topics of lectures:

  1. Legal duties of athletics coaches. Athletics legislation. Basics of safety in training and competitions.
  2. Sprint training. Specific tools for developing sprinting skills.
  3. Running training. Specific tools for developing endurance running skills.
  4. Hurdles training. Principle of gradual build-up in training. Linking phases of hurdle running.
  5. Hurdles training. Hurdling technique.
  6. Jump training. Special jumping exercises. Training tools to develop motor skills for jumping. Practice of long jump and triple jump techniques.
  7. High jumping.
  8. Throwing techniques. Training tools for developing motor skills. Shot put skills – back technique.
  9. Basic discus technique. Use of new equipment. Didactic approach, safety, organization.
  10. Basic javelin technique. Preparatory drills. Didactic approach.
  11. Pole vaulting technique drills. Special gymnastics drills. Didactic approaches in pole vault training.
  12. First set of disciplines: 100m, long jump, shot put, 200/400m.
  13. Second set of disciplines: high jump, javelin, 800/1500m.

Requirements for students:

Crediting requirements:

  • Attendance 80%. Missed lessons can be substituted.
  • Theoretical knowledge – athletics terminology, decisive criteria, critical aspects of technique.
  • 60m hurdles – three-step technique, without time limit.
  • Athletic performance in heptathlon (100m, long jump, shot put, high jump, javelin, 200/400m, 800/1500m) according to athletics rules. Licencing requirements: min. credit C + 100m hurdles – three-step technique, without time limit.
  • Practical demonstration of knowledge of athletics rules as part of attendance of athletics events.
