Annotation

The seminar is designed for international students who would like to become familiar with the principles of correct Czech pronunciation. In addition to theoretical information about the key features of the phonetic level of the Czech language, the course also includes practical training on selected elements. This training includes an analysis of students' pronunciation followed by individual recommendations for the improvement of Czech articulation, word stress placement and correct intonation. The content of the individual seminars can be tailored to students' requirements and the level of their practical skills.

Survey of topics

  1. Analysis of the pronunciation level of individual students. Principles of correct Czech pronunciation - introduction to the most important phenomena.
  2. Czech vowels - information about their correct formation, practice of their exact articulation.
  3. Czech vowels - explanation of the place and manner of their formation and of their voicing. Practice of proper articulation.
  4. Rules of standard Czech pronunciation - explanation of the most important principles, practical training.
  5. Sound media of continuous speech - word and sentence stress, segmentation of speech, modulation (types of intonation). Training of continuous text reading.
  6. Comprehensive exercises - speech exercises, text reading, listening to spoken and sung language and reproduction of heard text etc.
  7. Credit - fluent reading (without major pronunciation, intonation or orthoepical mistakes) of a selected Czech text.

Notes:

Requirements:
Active participation in seminars, completion of set tasks (e.g. short speech exercises or practice at reading Czech texts). The final requirement is the fluent reading (without major pronunciation mistakes) of a selected Czech text within the last seminar.

Evaluation - points:

  • participation in seminars - application of theoretical knowledge (10 points);
  • individual study of linguistic literature (20 points);
  • presentation of fluent reading within the last seminar (30-70 points).

Students must obtain min. 50 points.
