Annotation:

The lectures of this course consist of thirteen topics, which give the basic answer to the question: "What is the classical ethics." It is intended to be an introduction for students, who would like to get acquainted with the basic knowledge of classical ethics. The subject will be organised as a lecture and seminary.

Aims and objectives:

The course aims to introduce students to the principles of philosophIcal and theological ethics.

Topics:

  • Introduction to the Ethics. Etymology of the terms: ethics, morality. Ethics and morality.
  • The myth of the Cave. Ethical problem in the philosophy of Plato.
  • Nicomachean ethics. Ethical question in the reason of Aristotle.
  • The two buildings and only one gate. Stoics and Epicureans ethics.
  • The City of God. Christian's reason as a basic Saint Augustine's philosophy.
  • Suma contra gentiles. "The best reason of the scholastic philosophy". Thomas Aquinas as a thinker and his ethics.
  • Martin Luther. Share your freedom for the ethical life. The two Kingdoms of God.
  • Erasmus of Rotherham. Be servant of your freedom.
  • Leviathan. Thomas Hobbes.
  • Immanuel Kant and his work I.
  • Immanuel Kant and his work II.
  • The death of God. Fridrich Nietzsche.
  • Paul Johannes Tillich and Theonomus ethics.
